After a one-year stint with the Boston Bruins, veteran defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk remains a free agent in September. Shattenkirk’s agent, George Bazos, shared with NHL insider Pierre LeBrun that the right-shot defender is talking with a few clubs and “absolutely still wants to play.”
During the latest episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Shattenkirk has one specific club he is very interested in joining – the Edmonton Oilers.
Here’s what Friedman said on the matter: “Edmonton is still looking for maybe another D. You know who I heard would be interested in potentially playing there? Kevin Shattenkirk. I heard that Shattenkirk would love to be part of that Oiler team.”
Late last month, Frank Seravalli reported that Shattenkirk was one of the right-shot defenders on their radar. Thus, this latest update from Friedman certainly makes things more interesting.
Whether it is the Oilers or another club, Shattenkirk should be able to find a new home this season. He proved to be a solid depth defender for the Bruins last year, recording six goals and 24 points in 61 games. With numbers like these, he can still provide decent offense as a bottom-pairing guy, so it will be intriguing to see what happens with him from here. Clearly, Edmonton is a team to watch.
