Several teams have signed players to professional tryout (PTO) agreements with NHL training camps right around the corner. The Boston Bruins joined the trend earlier this offseason, inviting veteran forward Tyler Johnson to their training camp.
With PTOs being signed more frequently at this stage of the offseason, some have wondered if the Bruins could invite at least one more player to training camp. Yet, GM Don Sweeney recently shared the prospect of that occurring is low at this juncture.
Here is what Sweeney said to Mark Divver on the matter:
“Highly unlikely, but we’re going to regroup after the weekend and see where our health is overall and make a decision then.”

With this, barring any sudden changes, Johnson will be the lone player trying out for the Bruins this training camp. This is understandable, as Boston has several young players competing for NHL jobs, including Fabian Lysell, Georgii Merkulov, Justin Brazeau, Matthew Poitras, and Riley Duran.
Nevertheless, while it could have been good for the Bruins to invite one more experienced forward to camp, it seems incredibly unlikely at this stage. We will need to wait and see if Johnson can impress at training camp and earn a deal from here.
