Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera is set to miss the rest of the season after a serious knee injury was sadly confirmed by the club.
His worst fears have happened after the 23-year-old young talent was carried off on a stretcher in the latter minutes of Saturday afternoon’s 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa. It came after being caught by Morgan Rogers and twisting his knee in the process.
Wolves had high hopes for the Colombian international this season, especially after the departure of their former club captain Max Kilman to West Ham in the transfer window, and he has featured in all five league games played thus far, having shone for La Liga and Europa League side Villareal, who was on loan last term.
But he has undergone scans to determine the severity of the injury and will now require an operation after injuries to his medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the anterior cruciate ligament were confirmed.
Head of high performance Phil Hayward said: “Yerson has now had all of the various assessments and scans, which unfortunately confirm injuries to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
“We will be visiting specialists in the coming days to finalise the plan for surgery; this will take place in the next two weeks.
“Clearly there is a long recovery period ahead for Yerson, and the club will be providing all the support he needs to ensure a successful rehabilitation and a return to competition in due course.
“Timescales are difficult to state prior to surgery but it is highly unlikely he will feature again this season.”
It continues a torrid start to the season for Gary O’Neil’s men who find themselves bottom of the table after four defeats and a draw and out of the Carabao Cup and this is far from ideal preparation for the visit of high flying Liverpool on Saturday tea time.
