According to a claim in the Turkish media, Southampton forward Paul Onuachu could still sign for Trabzonspor when the transfer window reopens in the new year.
The Nigeria international was linked with a move to the Super Lig side throughout the summer following his impressive loan spell with them last season.
Taka Gazete have reported on the latest developments regarding Onuachu’s future at Southampton, and they say the Premier League have contacted Trabzonspor with regards to possibly doing a deal during the January window.
The Turkish media outlet says Trabzonspor are still interested in signing the 30-year-old if the price is right. Southampton were reportedly looking for a fee in the region of €9m during the latter stages of the last window, but the Trabzon club were unwilling to pay this.
It’s likely the Turkish club will be in the market for a centre forward during the next window after their woes in front of goal so far this season. The player has hardly figured for the Saints in this campaign and a deal could make sense for both clubs.
Onuachu made 25 appearances last season whilst on loan at Trabzonspor, scoring an impressive 17 goals. He’s contracted to Southampton until June 2026.
