The Golden State Warriors have been the most surprising team of the season. After losing Klay Thompson in free agency and failing to acquire a bona fide star to pair with Stephen Curry, fans and pundits didn’t have a rosy outlook for the Dubs, with some even declaring the dynasty is over.
But much to everyone’s surprise, the Warriors have surged to a 7-1 record, highlighted by their 118-112 road win over the defending champions Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. However, according to ESPN’s longtime NBA insider Brian Windhorst, Golden State may have a trick or two up its sleeve to bolster its roster even more.

Dubs have looked good so far
The Warriors’ major acquisitions this season didn’t involve a single All-Star; instead, they added solid role players Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton. However, whether it’s the team chemistry, coaching, or just sheer determination, the Warriors have found a winning formula.
For this reason, Windy believes the Dubs’ front office may not want to change the roster yet. However, it doesn’t mean that they won’t at any point this season.
“They may not want to make any changes to this roster because it’s so good, but the Warriors are the biggest candidate, in my mind, to make a big trade,” Windhorst said on “First Take.”
Ever since the Dubs lost Kevin Durant in the summer of 2019, the team has been looking for another superstar to help Steph carry the load— they were in talks to acquire LeBron James, Lauri Markkanen, or Paul George, but to no avail.
“They tried to trade for LeBron James last trade deadline. That was one of the most amazing stories that Woj and Ramona reported all last year—that those trade talks actually went down; that didn’t happen. Then, they tried to trade for Paul George. Then, they tried to trade for Lauri Markkanen. This is a team with an itchy trigger finger, trying to make a big deal,” the veteran journalist added.
No specific target just yet
When asked who the Warriors have set their eyes on, Windhorst didn’t provide names, saying that the team isn’t under anypressure to make changes, especially with their sizzling start and A-plus chemistry.
“I don’t think they feel the pressure to do that right now, but it’s something they’ve kicked around. They’re a team that not only has so much going for them right now, but they also have the assets needed to potentially make a trade later,” Brian reported.
After struggling the past few seasons, the Warriors have found lightning in a bottle with their startling depth and scintillating shooting. It remains to be seen if their by-committee approach will hold up as the season progresses, but make no mistake: Golden State has shown it still has plenty of gas left in its tank.
