Wolves forward Matheus Cunha has expressed relief at the club’s first Premier League win of the season, describing it as a “long journey” and emphasizing the need to build on their recent success.
After a challenging start with only three points from 10 matches, Wolves managed to secure a vital 2-0 victory over Southampton at Molineux, courtesy of goals from Pablo Sarabia and Cunha himself.
The win provided a much-needed boost as they moved away from the bottom of the table before the international break. Despite the uphill battle faced by teams in their position historically, Cunha remains optimistic, telling the club’s official website: “It’s obviously been a long journey to get these first three points in the season but we know and we’ve known since the beginning that we will try our best to keep going like this. Right now, we need to enjoy it a little bit, because it was also tough to get these three points.
“We know every single game in the Premier League is so hard, and even though they’ve gone below us now, we’re still in the relegation zone, so I hope we can change the situation.”
Sarabia’s early goal, assisted by Cunha, followed by Cunha’s own stunning effort from distance after the break, marked his fifth league goal, making him the top scorer for Wolves this season.
He added, “Every single time I do my best to help my team. I know I’m very important for these guys but always I think I need to improve more and then try my best on the pitch.”
