Cameron Archer is now the main man in Leeds United transfer headlines. He’s being linked with a late move to Elland Road, and not for the first time.
Cameron Archer and Leeds United is a story that just won’t go away. Leeds wanted to sign Archer in 2023 before he opted to join Sheffield United on loan, only to get relegated from the Premier League with the Blades.
He then sealed a £15 million move from Aston Villa to Southampton ahead of this season. But the Saints are on course for relegation after a dire first half of the 2024/25 season, and Archer could now seal a swift exit from St Mary’s.
It was revealed on Thursday that Leeds United had made a loan bid for Archer, who is open to moving to Elland Road, but the 23-year-old wants to move to a club where game time is guaranteed.
Southampton rejected Leeds’ opening offer. The likes of Sunderland are also interested in a possible deal for the Englishman.

TEAMtalk have now revealed the latest on the situation. They write that Southampton wants to keep Archer until the summer and then reassess the situation. But Leeds are ‘expected to return with another offer.’.
Daniel Farke’s side are confident they can get a deal for Archer over the line with the winger open to moving. TEAMtalk says that Leeds will make a bid just north of the £15 million that Southampton paid for Archer in the summer.
How much the Saints want for Archer remains to be seen. Given their ongoing struggles in the Premier League this season, it would surely take a big offer for them to sell any of their players midway through the season.
Daniel Farke’s hidden message to Cameron Archer
Speaking to the press on Thursday ahead of Leeds’ game against Cardiff City on Saturday, Farke sent a hidden message to Archer, speaking about new signings and game time.
Farke said, “If a player just wants to join a team due to game time, and you know there is lots of competition as well and I don’t just walk in and overtake the club more or less, that’s also a bit tricky. And some are also perhaps a little bit reluctant because they think, ‘You have some really good players in my position.’.
“It’s always a bit tricky on loan deals because loan players often know they are just coming for a few months in order to get game time. But if they don’t see they are in a position that they would walk easily into the starting XI, then it could also be tricky.”
With Manor Solomon and Dan James firing on the flanks right now, and names like Largie Ramazani and Wilfried Gnonto to call upon. there’s a lot of quality in the attacking third at Leeds right now.
Archer, though, can play as a No. 10 and even as a No. 9, which could make him ideal for Leeds, whose current options in Brenden Aaronson and Joel Piroe split opinion.
