When the Pittsburgh Steelers kick off the 2024 regular season, we know who the players are who will get all the attention. But there are plenty of guys who don’t steal any headlines we can’t wait to watch play this season. And these are the guys we are rooting for to not only make the team but be able to improve and developed into regular contributors during the 2024 season. Or maybe there are guys who have already proven their worth but find themselves battling for their spot.
Here are the five guys we are rooting the hardest for.
OT Dan Moore Jr.
No, I’m not rooting for or even banking on Moore beating out rookie Troy Fautanu to hold onto his starting spot. But I do want to see Moore get the reps as the team’s sixth offensive lineman and play well enough that teams remember him when he hits free agency.
LB Cole Holcomb
I fully understand why the Steelers had to move forward unsure if they will have Cole Holcomb this season but we are really rooting for him to be 100 percent at some point in the season to work with rookie Payton Wilson and get on the field and pick up where he left off before his injury last season.
WR Calvin Austin III
This is the last time we will bang the drum for Calvin Austin III but we are hopeful the positive reports that have come out of OTAs will continue and he can be a key part of the Steelers passing offense. Even if it is only as a No. 4 receiver or gadget player we want to see him on the field.
WR Van Jefferson
Speaking of wide receivers, if the Steelers aren’t going to trade for a top receiver, we better all start rooting for Van Jefferson to return to his 2021 form when he caught 50 passes for an impressive 802 yards and a 16-yard per catch average and those six receiving touchdowns.
CB Cory Trice Jr.
Cory Trice Jr. looked like a steal prior to his training camp injury last season. Now we are rooting for him to get back to full health after missing all of his rookie campaign and finding a spot on the depth chart behind Joey Porter Jr., Donte Jackson and Cameron Sutton.
