The Boston Bruins have nine pending unrestricted free agents on the roster and with around $21 million in salary cap space, GM Don Sweeney will be active this off-season retooling for the 2042-25 campaign.
As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on Monday, defenceman Derek Forbort is planning to test the free agent market July 1 and is not expected back in Boston next season.
With Milan Lucic also not returning next season, Sweeney will have some depth holes to fill, beyond another scoring forward he hopes to acquire in some fashion this summer.
One player the Bruins will try to re-sign, however, is forward Danton Heinen.
Earlier today, Pagnotta reported that the Bruins are planning to speak with Heinen’s camp, led by agent Allain Roy, at some point this week.

It is unclear as to the type of contract Heinen is looking for, but a mid-term deal in the three-year range could be on the horizon for him either in Boston or with another team.
Heinen, who turns 29 on July 5, made $775,000 this season and will surely command a raise after registering 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points, the second-highest points total of his career, to date.
