The Bruins announced they hired Leach back to their coaching staff. The 44-year-old will be an assistant coach. Leach spent the 2021-24 NHL seasons with the Seattle Kraken as an assistant coach after being the Providence Bruins head coach from 2017-21.
“The Boston Bruins are excited to welcome Jay Leach back to the organization,” Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said in a statement. “Jay was a very successful coach with the Providence Bruins where he greatly impacted our player development system, and he also brings valuable experience as an assistant coach from the Seattle Kraken. We believe Jay will integrate quickly and complement our current staff as he comes back to the Bruins to work with our defense corps.”
Leach joins Chris Kelly (assistant coach), Mathew Myers (video coordinator) and Dan Darrow (assistant video coordinator), on Jim Montgomery’s staff for the 2024-25 season.
In addition to Leach’s return, the Bruins also announced Joe Sacco was named associate coach, and John McLean will join Boston’s player development staff as a skating and skills coach. McLean was an assistant coach for the Bruins during the 2023-24 season when he replaced John Gruden after he left the organization to be the head coach of the Toronto Marlies.
The Bruins are expected to have an active offseason with roster holes to fill, players to re-sign and a good chunk of cap space to work with.
