Training camp is here for the Boston Bruins, much to the excitement of the club’s fans. This indicates that the regular season is rapidly approaching, so we will soon start to see the Original Six club back in game action.
However, before the regular season is here, the Bruins have some questions to answer regarding their roster. After losing multiple forwards this offseason, they have a handful of spots in their lineup to fight for. Because of this, several players are eyeing roster spots, and Bruins top prospect Fabian Lysell is arguably the most notable.
Now is the perfect time for Lysell to try to earn a roster spot. The Bruins’ depth at the right wing position is not the strongest at this juncture, and the second-line spot is up for grabs because of it. As a result, with a strong training camp, Lysell could make a real case for himself to earn a prominent role in Boston’s lineup. At a minimum, he should garner real consideration for a top-nine role.
However, Lysell also has plenty of competition heading into training camp. Players like Morgan Geekie, Justin Brazeau, Matthew Poitras, Georgii Merkulov, and PTO addition Tyler Johnson will all be fighting for middle-six spots. Thus, Lysell will need to stand out if he hopes to make the jump to the NHL finally.
Lysell, 21, is coming off an excellent season with the Providence Bruins. In 56 contests, the 2021 first-round pick had 15 goals, 50 points, and a plus-6 rating. It is clear that he took forward in his development last season, but will it be enough for him to be in Boston’s lineup on opening night? We will need to wait and see what happens on that front from here.
