As Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase prepares for his fourth NFL season, he’s been seeking a new contract from the team and has yet to get it. So with his Week 1 status now in question following an interesting injury report update, fans all had the same joke.
On Saturday, the Bengals downgraded Chase to “questionable” with an unspecified illness. He had been holding out for most of training camp while working on getting a new deal with the team and as recently as this week said he believes a new deal is “pretty close.”
“Contract status, pretty good for real,” Chase said, via NFL.com. “I want to say we’re off a little bit, but it’s in reach. We’ll see about game day…I’d say we’re pretty close. A few numbers need to be switched around and changed other places, but I’ll say we’re pretty close.”
But with his status now questionable with an illness people all had one joke: He’s “sick” of waiting for a new deal.
“Ja’Marr is sick of not having a new contract yet,” ESPN’s Field Yates mused.
“Severe case of needacontractitis,” wrote another.
“he’s sick of not being paid,” a third wrote.
“I bet he will feel better if he gets a new deal done,” a fourth mused.
Ja’Marr Chase has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons in the NFL since going No. 5 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s emerged as one of the league’s best and is on the verge of being paid like one.
