Tuesday night featured the Browns and the rest of the division in the first episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks: In Season With the AFC North.”
Having aired since 2001, the series usually would examine one team during the training camp period and has recently examined a second team during the season.
But this is the first time the series will take on an in-season look at a whole division, diving behind the scenes into the mindsets of each team through the last month of the regular season.
Though the first episode really didn’t feature the Browns much, here are three interesting things we learned.
1. Myles Garrett acknowledges struggles
The Browns haven’t lived up to the hype this season, and Garrett briefly spoke on it.
“It’s been ups and downs every season. Unfortunately it’s been a couple more downs than highs,” Garrett said. “But we still have a lot of time left to change that around.”
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has been in Cleveland since 2017, making him one of the longest tenured players on the roster.
So far during his career, the Browns have only made the playoffs twice. They are the only winning seasons he’s taken part in.
2. Roy Istvan likes to curse
It’s football, and it’s no secret, players and coaches swear.
Roy Istvan, the Browns’ assistant offensive line coach, spoke to the offensive line ahead of Monday night’s game versus Denver. He made use of curse words during the scene, and even used one specific word a total of 13 times.
3. They like apple pie
A scene ahead of Thanksgiving showed quarterback Jameis Winston, asking his teammates whether they liked pumpkin or sweet potato pie better.
A majority of the voices around him stated they preferred apple pie.
When Winston tried to repeat the question a little differently without mentioning apple pie as an option, his teammates again reminded him of their preference for apple pie.
