The Boston Bruins did not plan to change their coaching staff significantly this offseason. This decision comes after a successful regular season and advancing to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Watching the Florida Panthers cruise to what is likely a Stanley Cup Final victory, with the Bruins arguably being their toughest opponent, has also softened the blow of their postseason defeat.
But the Black and Gold did announce this week that Jay Leach had been added to Jim Montgomery’s NHL staff after he was caught up in the recent Seattle Kraken coaching staff change involving the firing of Dave Hakstol.
When Leach got hired by the Seattle Kraken in 2021, he was considering a rising coaching star in the Boston Bruins organization for Providence, and Montgomery was among the names mentioned for Boston’s open head coaching position before he was finally fired for the job. So it makes a lot of sense for Leach to rejoin the Black and Gold staff at this time. The P-Bruins had an impressive 136-77-26 record while he was in Providence, and the organization developed many young players during his tenure.
