Breaking news on a Friday afternoon!
According to Kevin Weekes, the Edmonton Oilers are closing in on a contract extension for Calvin Pickard. According to his report it will be a two year deal. Nothing has been made official at the time of this writing.

This would make sense on a number of fronts. For one, Jeff Jackson said to the press yesterday that he wants to keep most of the team together. Certainly that includes the goaltenders on the team as well.
Pickard is a beloved member of the Oilers. He’s a great presence in the locker room and has a positive and professional attitude.
He had a 12-7-1 record in 23 games played this past season with 2.45 goals against average (GAA) and a .909 save percentage (SV%). He also recorded one shutout.
Kris Knoblauch turned to him for two starts in the playoffs, to give Stuart Skinner a soft reset. In those appearances he was 1-1 with a 2.21 GAA and a .915 SV%.
Pickard is coming off of a two-year, $763,000 contract.
