Newcastle United may not have hit the ground running in terms of performances and yet they’re unbeaten from their first three Premier League games and sit just outside of the top-four on goal difference.
The Magpies have won two and drawn one of their opening three Premier League games, but the general consensus on Tyneside, is the best is yet to come from Eddie Howe’s side. After missing out on European football last season, Newcastle will be hoping to bring Champions League football back to Tyneside, although Europa League or Europa Conference League football certainly wouldn’t be viewed as a failure after a disappointing summer transfer window.
The Toon return to Premier League action when they take on Wolves after the international break. The Magpies don’t boast the best record at Molineux Stadium, having not won there since the 2016/17 Championship campaign where an Aleksandar Mitrovic strike wrapped up the three points.
In the same breath, the Toon have only lost once in their last 10 outings. Gary O’Neil’s side have not won in the Premier League so far this season and have a number of injury concerns heading into the tussle.
Sasa Kalajdzic will miss the clash with the Magpies after sustaining an ACL injury last season, while Enso Gonzalez Medina will also miss game against Newcastle due to the same issue.
Boubacar Traore will also miss the game against Howe’s side after picking up an injury to his left knee in Wolves’ Carabao Cup win over Burnley at the end of August.
Head of high performance Phil Hayward said: “Boubacar suffered an injury to his left knee during the match on Wednesday night. The scans have shown damage to the lateral meniscus which will require surgery. This will take place in the coming week.
“It is difficult to predict the exact timescales at this stage, and we will know more once Boubacar has surgery.”
