Leading up to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk was a popular player in the rumor mill. His pending UFA status and the Bruins’ limited cap space were the main reasons behind it. However, the 2015 first-round pick ended up staying put, and it’s a decision that the Bruins absolutely are not regretting.
DeBrusk, 27, has been playing his best hockey of the season, posting four goals and nine points over his last seven contests. He has shown clear signs of last season’s form, and no longer feeling the pressure as a trade candidate is likely a notable reason for it.
With DeBrusk starting to play at his highest level, the Bruins management should consider signing him to a contract extension. He is starting to form stronger chemistry with Brad Marchand and Charlie Coyle, and keeping him around in their top six beyond this season may be wise because of it.
