The 26-year-old suffered a calf problem on international duty with Argentina, with his return date still unknown.
Montiel has only featured five times for Steve Cooper since his arrival in the summer, with the Argentinian only starting two games for the club.
However, due to the form of other players in the full-back area such as Ola Aina and Harry Toffolo, Hutchinson believes that the World Cup winner may struggle to regain his place.
Hutchinson on Montiel’s return
Speaking on the Garibaldi Red Podcast, the commentator admitted that hasn’t been massively impressed with the defender since his arrival.
“I was shocked in the Burnely game to see a World Cup-winning right-back who scored the winning penalty, be that poor in a Nottingham Forest game.
“His injury is quite timely because I do question whether he would be starting at the minute anyway.
“I think might really struggle to get back into the team when he returns because of the likes of [Harry] Toffolo and [Ola] Aina.”
Montiel still needs time to adapt
The 26-year-old right-back joined the Reds during the summer window on a season-long loan, with an option to make the deal permanent.
Montiel certainly shouldn’t be written off, it’s clear he possesses good qualities that can improve the Forest squad, however, we may have to be patient in order to see the best in the Argentinian international.
However, he may need to bide his time when he returns, with Aina and Toffolo more than deserving of starting positions currently.
