If one thing has been clear about Wolves this season, it’s that there are several players capable of making things happen in the final third.
Pedro Neto regularly made headlines before he got injured against Newcastle United at the end of October and is still joint-top of the Premier League assist chart.
Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan have both been enjoying really good seasons, scoring 13 Premier League goals between them so far.
Overall, Wolves have been creating a lot more chances under Gary O’Neil compared to Bruno Lage last term.
One might think that Neto would be the most prolific creator of chances at Molineux. But that honour actually goes to another player…
Pablo Sarabia is officially the Premier League’s most prolific chance creator
2023/24 has been very up and down for Pablo Sarabia.
He started the campaign in the starting XI, but some poor displays led to him losing his place, with Hwang and Neto then firmly establishing themselves as starters.
But just recently, Sarabia has had a show of faith from O’Neil, following an amazing cameo against Tottenham Hotspur.
Sarabia has now started the last two Premier League games for Wolves against Burnley and Nottingham Forest – and he’s looked a bright spark.
Very interestingly, Sarabia has now been revealed as the player with the highest chances created per 90 values in the division. He is averaging 3.92 chances created per game, having created 16 in just 367 minutes.
That puts him just ahead of Johann Gudmundsson, James Maddison and Bruno Fernandes.
Sarabia is a clear threat for Wolves
So, no one in the whole Premier League is creating chances at a better rate than Sarabia at the moment.
The Spaniard may be frustrated sometimes when he slows things down and loses the ball. But the numbers do not lie – he makes things happen for Wolves.
He is not as high-octane as Hwang, Neto or Cunha, with O’Neil a huge fan of that trio. But the head coach does like what Sarabia brings to the table, and recently hailed the player’s ‘unbelievable quality’.
There is a case to be made that Sarabia should be a regular starter for Wolves. He definitely should while Neto is on the sidelines anyway.
